What happens when you create a Playbook?
Creating a Playbook in LexHub is not a manual rule-building process. Instead, you upload a model contract and the AI analyses it to generate a draft set of rules automatically. Your role is to provide the right input upfront, and then verify the AI's output before publishing.
The result is a structured Playbook that reflects both your uploaded contract and established best practices for the relevant jurisdiction — ready to be applied consistently in the Word plugin.
Before you start
Choose a model contract that reflects your firm's preferred or approved position for the document type you want to review against. This could be your standard NDA, a preferred SPA, or any other contract that represents the standard you want the Playbook to enforce. The quality of the Playbook depends directly on the quality of the contract you upload.
Step 1: Upload your contract and add instructions
Go to Playbooks in the LexHub web application and click Create playbook.
In the dialog that opens, upload the model contract you want to base the Playbook on. You can:
Upload a file from your computer — supported formats are PDF, DOC, and DOCX (max. 25 MB)
Select a LexHub Template — use a contract already stored in your Template library
Next, add instructions for the AI. Instructions are general guidance that applies to all rules in the Playbook — for example, the perspective from which the contract should be reviewed (buyer-side, supplier-side), any specific jurisdictional considerations, or particular areas of focus. These instructions shape how the AI interprets and applies each rule during a review.
Once you have uploaded the contract and added your instructions, click Next.
Step 2: Set sharing permissions
In the next step, choose who should have access to this Playbook. You can add individual users from your workspace or leave it accessible only to yourself.
Users you share the Playbook with will be able to select and run it in the Word plugin once it is published. Click Create to proceed.
Step 3: Wait for the AI to generate your rules
LexHub will now analyse the uploaded contract and generate a draft set of rules. During this process the AI:
Scans the document structure
Identifies key sections and clauses
Understands legal patterns in the document
Detects important rules and conditions
Generates the Playbook rules
This may take a few minutes depending on the length and complexity of the contract. You can leave the page and come back later — LexHub will notify you when the analysis is complete.
Step 4: Review and verify each rule
Once the AI has finished, your draft Playbook is ready for review. You will see a list of rules in the left panel, each corresponding to a clause or topic identified in the uploaded contract.
Go through each rule one by one and verify that it accurately reflects your firm's standards. For each rule, the AI has generated:
Rule title and description A short name and explanation of what the rule covers — for example, "Scope of agreement" or "Term & Termination."
Importance The relative priority or risk level assigned to the rule — Low, Medium, or High. Adjust this to reflect how critical the clause is in your review process.
Standard Your firm's preferred position for this clause. This is what a fully acceptable contract should say.
Fallback One or more fallback positions representing acceptable compromises if the counterparty pushes back on the standard position. You can add multiple fallback positions to reflect different levels of acceptable deviation.
Unacceptable The position that is not acceptable under any circumstances. If a contract contains language that falls into this category, the Playbook will flag it as a critical finding during review.
For each rule, you can edit, refine, or delete the AI-generated content. The source document is displayed in a panel alongside each rule so you can cross-reference the original contract text as you verify.
Use the Verify & Next button to work through the rules in sequence. Your progress is tracked in the progress bar at the top of the page.
Step 5: Publish the Playbook
Once you have verified all rules, click Publish playbook. The Playbook will become available in the Word plugin to all users it has been shared with.
Published Playbooks can be edited, duplicated, or archived at any time from the Playbooks overview page.
Tips for creating effective Playbooks
Upload your best contract. The AI generates rules based on the clauses in your model contract. A well-drafted, comprehensive contract produces more useful rules than a partial or outdated one.
Write clear instructions. The instructions field shapes how the AI applies every rule. Specify the review perspective, jurisdiction, and any particular priorities upfront — this produces more accurate and relevant rules.
Don't skip the verification step. The AI-generated rules are a strong starting point, but they need your professional judgement to be accurate and complete. Review each rule carefully before publishing.
Use Fallback positions generously. Real contract negotiations rarely result in getting your standard position. Adding well-thought-out fallback positions makes the Playbook far more useful during live reviews.
Be explicit about what is Unacceptable. The Unacceptable position is your red line. The more precisely you define it, the more reliably the Playbook will flag genuine issues during review.
